How can I improve the skill of playing by ear on guitar?

I very much want to learn to play guitar by ear considering I can only
play thru music sheet. I've been playing guitar for like 7 months
already , in case you wonder. any tips on how to learn to play by ear
would be highly appreciated and many thanks in advance.
